Let’s face it, first impressions count to potential homeowners.  “Curb appeal,” as the term implies, refers to how appealing a home looks from the outside when a prospective buyer pulls up to the curb in front of the home. Curb appeal is the first impression your home will make on a buyer. If you need to sell a house, improving the curb appeal is one of the best things you can do to effectively market your home. In this blog post, I am going to guide you on how to increase your homes curb appeal. Curb appeal not only makes a first great impression for potential home owners but it also adds 10% value to your home. Below are some ways you can curb your curb appeal in today’s competitive market.

·         Clean up the yard. Buyers love homes with green, healthy grass.  They imagine an area where their children can play either now or in the future. Alongside this, they also like entertaining in a nice backyard.  Help them imagine your yard as being home. So, make sure that your yard is in pristine condition. Yes, this does indeed asking your kids to keep their outdoor toys out of sight to as well as raking leaves. Of course, re-seeding or replacing your lawn with sod is optimal. However, if this is not an option, keeping lawns watered, properly mowed and neatly edged dramatically improves curb appeal. Since, it is January this last tip about cleaning up your yard is potentially important.  As we all know in the DMV area it is very snowy. So, this year make sure you keep a tidy path shoveled to the front door always and use melting salts to keep your pathways ice free.

·         In this same vein, also look at your prune shrubbery and trees. Overgrown bushes and overhanging trees give a house a “wild” look that discourages would-be buyers, but neatly-trimmed landscapes give your home a welcoming, well-kept feel.

·         Pressure Wash Walls and Driveways. Pressure washing removes exterior mold, dirt, and stains, making your home more attractive to buyers. In many cases, pressure washing can also increase the selling price of a home. Please be aware, however, pressure washing can also damage delicate paint and landscape features. So, hire a professional pressure washing service if you’re not experienced enough to do the job properly. Lastly, if your paint is beyond repair, consider painting the exterior of the home with fresh paint. Who doesn’t love seeing a freshly painted home?
